My New Cover

Happy day... I got the cover for the book I just turned in, Bled Dry, and I love it! When I get an email from my editor with a new cover attached, I always hold my breath and close my eyes, hoping like crazy I’m going to like it. Or at least not hate it. I’ve been really lucky, because none of my covers have been bad. Most I’ve been really pleased with because I think they reflect the tone of my books. Some I like more than others, of course, but none have been hideous. So far. LOL.

My Las Vegas vampire covers- High Stakes, Bit The Jackpot, and now Bled Dry, are so amazing that it’s going to be hard to top these. I love the bright colors and the sassy looks on the heroine’s faces. You Don’t Know Jack is a cool cover as well. I was worried because it was my first “guy” cover, but I really like the way it turned out.

Are you a cover shopper? Do you pick up a book because of the cover? Or is it author recognition? Have you ever passed on a book because the cover was yuck?

What do you like on a cover?

Erin :-)

The cover is what usually makes me pick up a book. I decide to buy it by the blurb on the back.

Oooh...nice. While covers may get my attention, they do not really influence my purchasing decision. I like all kinds of covers...I am not picky.

Oh, and I love that shade of blue on your cover!

Love the cover!!

If I don't know an author than the cover is what attracts me to the book. If I don't like the cover I don't usually pick it up. I'm sure I've missed out on tons of good books that way.

I love the cover for You Don't know Jack. I can't wait to read that one!

I am with Kelley, if it is an author I do not know I look at the cover. If is it an author I know and i love the cover I grab it.

I have certain authors that are auto buys, and I will buy their books regardless of what the cover looks like. If it is someone I am not familiar with, then the cover definitely has to attract my attention before I would even pick the book up. I always pass on covers with babies because I usually don't care for that story line. But that's just me!

I love all your covers for the vampire series -- very eye-catching, and fitting for your stories.

I don't usually like covers with babies or kids either because a lot of them look goofy to me... too fake or something. Now a black and white cover of a bare-chested man holding a baby would work for me. ;-)

Some covers I really like are Rosemary Laurey's Keep Me Forever, Lori Foster's Too Much Temptation and Never Too Much, and Susan Elizabeth Phillip's Ain't She Sweet?

lol what amy said. But I have passed on books that I later found out were fabulous just by looking at the cover. But if it's an author that I like to read then I'll still check it out. This cover rocks btw

awesome cover Erin... I have High Stakes up as my staff pick at the bookstore. I do check out covers but a bad cover won't keep me from buying a book.

I'm a complete cover nut. I've been known to buy a book solely because I liked the cover. It's the first thing that grabs my attention, even before the author.

It's not everything, but in a sea of books, how am I to decide what to pick up and look at (all authors being equal, of course), if not the cover?

I'm a sucker for a great cover. I looove beautiful artwork. If the cover is hideous or I'm embarassed to be seen reading it I usually won't buy it.

I think all of your covers have been exceptionally good. This one is totally fabulous.

i won't totally pass on a yuck cover if the author appeals to me, or if the blurb does.

but i have bypassed picking up books because of the cover. if the cover doesn't tempt me into picking it up.... eh.... i don't exactly judge a book by it's cover, but i just don't randomly pick up BAD covers.

Oh! Lovely cover. I'd definitely pick the book up, even though I'm not a huge fan of the "cartoon" covers. (Then again, yours is a lot "busier" than most I've seen, and this is a good thing. Usually they're way too simple to catch my eye.)

In regards to book shopping, I tend to pick books up in the following order:

- Cover
- Author
- Title

What I like on a cover varies from book to book and genre to genre. I don't expect romances to have similar covers to, say, epic fantasy, nor vice versa. So it all depends. :)

I won't pass on a book that's genuinely interesting because of the cover... though I may pick up a later reprint with a new one should that happen! lol.

The cover definately plays a part in me picking up a book that is not on my autobuy list. If it grabs my attention on the shelf, I will pick it up and read the blurb on the back.

I love the covers of your books. They have all been striking.

LOVE this one, I think it's my fave of all the vamp books. Just gorgeous.

But Erin, even if your book cover ended up being hideous, I would still buy your books, no questions asked. It's your writing that keeps me coming back for more.

As for new authors, I've had several covers catch my eye, like Shiloh's, and MJD's. Never heard of either author before I saw the amazing book covers each had, then I became a fan because I ended up loving the books.

Though that doesn't always happen. Sometimes the cover ends up being the best part of the book. All flash, no substance. You don't have to worry about that Erin :)

Erin, just want to say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cover for Bled Dry. Brittany looks beautiful, and I can't wait to read about her and Corbin. I'm also anticipating Cara and Seamus's story. Keep up the great work. :)
