Me and V

I feel like I’ve fallen off the face of the earth between a November 1 deadline and my sister’s wedding (I’ll blog about that next time!), but we managed to squeeze in a Halloween party for my daughter’s birthday. Costumes mandatory. I actually convinced my mother to dress up- well, actually, it was the big-eyed “please?” from her granddaughter that did it. :-) My mom was a bag of M&Ms, and a darn good one at that. It’s the first time she’s worn a costume in over forty years.

I love dressing up, love candy, and love having the daylights scared out of me, so Halloween is a favorite holiday of mine. I was also born on a Friday the 13th, so I guess it’s no surprise that I love all things eerie and weird. As you can see from the picture, I was a geisha (though I skipped the white make-up, figuring I’m pale enough naturally) and my hubby was the creepy villain from Vendetta. That mask he wore was seriously disturbing, because he didn’t look like himself at all, which I guess is the point. LOL. And that's fake hair, by the way. He really enjoyed answering the door and watching the pizza delivery guy jump back three feet. Our puppy wore a mini kimono that matched mine. It’s totally ridiculous, but she looked adorable and actually kept it on for an hour, though we couldn’t get her still long enough for a decent picture.

Do you like to dress up for Halloween, and do you go for scary or funny? What the most creative costume you’ve ever seen? Got any good tips on easy, inexpensive costumes?

Have a great Friday! I’m glad to be back chatting.

You looked like y'all had a great time. I haven't worn a costume in over 10 years. I put on a nice dress and pearls and an apron and went as Betty Crocker.

Erin, that's a great picture of you and your husband. That mask rocks. I remember the scene in V for Vendetta where all these people wore Guy Fawkes masks.

Sometimes I like to dress up for Halloween. I worked with third graders the last four years, so Halloween was a big deal and I dressed up each Halloween while I worked at that particular school. I'm currently working with pre-K students, so I'll be dressing up again for Halloween. I'm still not sure what I'll be yet. I have a great bright purple bob wig that I purchased years ago that I really like, so maybe I'll incorporate that in a costume. I like funny costumes more than scary ones.

What a fun birthday party!
I don't dress up, nor do I really like to. Probably becuase I have no creativity in making "cool" costumes, or I would dress up.

Great picture Erin. I love the spookiness of Halloween more than actually dressing up. I like watching the old scary movies and getting candy and stuff like that. I even did a ghost tour last year which was fun. That's what I like about Halloween.

Great picture and looks like you all had fun. I haven't dressed up in years in a costume and whenever I did I was just a witch..........so I am not creative when it comes to that...........

I haven't dressed up in years either, but it really was fun. I think I'll do it again next year. ;-)

Love the Betty Crocker idea!

Great costumes.

It has been probably 20 years since I've dressed up in a costume. I had to wear one to work at my first job. I went as Boxcar Willie. A friend of mine's Daddy is a builder so he let me borrow an old pair of his overalls, an old shirt, jacket, a hat, and a pair of his work boots. My friend used mascara on my face to make it look like I had a stubbly beard and mustache.
