HI Everyone!
I'm off to the RWA conference in Dallas, Texas. Woo-hoo, the Lone Star State---oh, wait, I live here :) Okay, so it's only a 2 hour drive.
I can't wait to meet up with friends, go to workshops, and the awards ceremony!!! Nope, I'm not a bit excited---yeah, right.
If you're going, and you see me, be sure to say hello! Those who aren't going---I'll miss you!!! :( I'll think about you each and every minute.....Okay, I'm lying. I won't think about y'all while I'm gone.
Speaking of which, what do you say to someone who asks how you're doing. You know, "Hi, how are you doing?" Especially if it's a clerk in a store whom you've never met. Admit it, don't you want to sometimes say:
"Oh, Lord, I'm doing awful--just awfulllll! My back aches, my feet are killing me and my damned hemorrhoids have flared up. The guy I went out with last night was a real sleaze bag---but you know how it is when you've had one too many *snort*. I think he must've had crabs, too. Do you have any Blue Star ointment?"
Someday that clerk might just catch me at the wrong moment.
Y'all have a good one!

Ummm Karen,
Working in retail you hear way too much information from some people.
Sometimes I think that I should just charge these people 50 bucks an hour (what is going rate for therapy?), because I hear about more things then you care to know.
I have heard about hemorrhoids, bad dates, one woman was running up her husbands credit cards before the big D day (divorce) on the advice of her attorney. I have heard about other people who's husbands have ruined their credit.
I also deal with people who take out there bad day on the person who is just ringing up their underwear. I have had people throw things at me, their money, credit cards.
Working retail is an adventure. :)
Barb
I have to agree with Barb, working retail is an adventure. Sometimes, you just get way more information than you are looking for or even want. Makes you wonder if you have a sign that says "True Confessions taken here."
But on the other hand, I have been on the opposite side of the fence as well, and have wanted to make up some outlandish thing when someone has said how are you - or ask them the question - Do you really care? But have bitten my tongue and behaved........LOL
My usual responce to such a question is "I can't complain and if I did nobody would listen" usually said with wry grin on face. Never had a bad comeback from it yet :D
Karen you are so funny. I hope you have a great time at the convention. Just remember that those of us that are not there are jealous and you should not rub it in any more than you have to. LOL
I have worked for lawyers for over ten years and I have heard more than any one person should have to endure. I could make your ears burn with some of the things that I know. But of course, confidentialty holds me back from telling my secrets. Sorry
Patty L.
Yeah, Karen, sometimes I'll say "well, I've been better, but you don't really want to hear my complaints." That generally shuts them up. Patty L, I've been a legal asst. for 30 years and I know what you're talking about. There are people who are far too eager to share every grisly detail of their personal life with me - or else they go to the other extreme and when I ask if I can tell my boss what they're calling about, they tell me it's "a legal problem." Well duh, this is a law office. Who do they think is going to be working on their file and generating their paperwork? lol
Have fun in Dallas, everyone who is going!
Have fun in Dallas Karen.
I work part time in retail. Sometimes you want to smack these people, esp the ones that keep talking on their cell phone while you are trying to ring them up.
Or at my other job the people that have to tell you all the medical problems. Hello I am in billing I can't help you with that. Yikes.
