Favorite BOOKS! and a winner...

The winner from Tuesday's contest is Joye. She commented My mother who is 82 is hard to buy something for because she has just about everything-doesn't cook anymore, doesn't wear fancy clothes. I need Joye to email me at shilohwalker@gmail.com with the words FAVE THINGS in the subject line.
Today we're going to talk about my favorite books. Have I mentioned that I love books? I don't always get to read as much as I'd like. I have little kids, a husband that recently switched to night shifts three days a week and it seems like my list of things to do grow longer every day. Now deadlines play into my reading time. When I'm under the gun, I'm too frazzled to focus on reading that much.
Even when I'm not hearing the ticking clock, I don't always read as much as I should. There are times when I'm so worn out from looking at words all day, relaxing with them didn't sound that much fun. But then I realized my brain was getting creatively tired. A writer needs to read almost as much as she needs to write. Plain and simple. It recharges the brain batteries.
I had to take some time off from writing this year because I had to have surgery on my hand. It was probably a blessing in disguise. It freed up several weeks for me to do nothing but read. I finally got some books out of my TBR pile. Some went on my keeper shelf. Some didn't. I did some rereading of old faves.
I'm going to give away a couple of those faves...
For today's Fave Things contest,
Stardoc by SL Viehl
For the record, my favorite series EVER. I think everybody who can read should read it.
Elizabeth's Wolf by Lora Leigh
Very hot, very very good...my fave from her.
Dream Shadow by Mary Wine
her Dream series is excellent, especially if you like kick ass heroines
The Fifth Favor by Shelby Reed
Shelby writes some of the most beautiful romances. I adore her, even though I'm jealous ;o)
Surviving Demon Island by Jaci Burton
Because I'm such a sweet, loving girl, *choke* I got an early read of this. Okay, okay, stop laughing, I'm as far from sweet as they come, but Jaci loves me anyway and let me read early. It's awesome. Mortal Kombat meets Survivor, Jaci style.
And since I'm talking about faves, I'll also give away a copy of my fave from my own books, Touch of Gypsy Fire.
To enter, just tell me the name of a book that you would give away. Not because you didn't like it. But because you loved it and want to share. What's the book and why would you give it to someone? What made it so special? Post the answer in the comments section and I'll draw a winner Saturday.
Contest open until 12/22/06, midnight EST.

Ransom by Julie Garwood
I love the dialog in this book. The heroine is hilarious and I want the hero in a bad way. Historical books by Garwood are the best.

The StarDoc series is great! As well as the spin-off stand alone novels. She just doesn't put them out fast enough.

Seize The Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love the hero and heroine in this book. They overcome a lot of adversity to be together.

Table For Five by Susan Wiggs...
This book is beautifully written and has characters that you will fall in love with. It will definitely grab your heartstrings. It is a story of death, grief, compassion, recovery, hope, happiness, and discovering that love does conquer all. A book that I couldn't put down and I didn't want it to end.

Crystal Falls by Nora Roberts. I enjoyed this book and I would like to give someone else the chance to do so.

I would give away Queen of Babble because Lizzie had me smiling through the whole book.

Keeper of the Dream by Ruby Storm

Not only would I give it away, I have. I bought 3 copies when they came available and have 4 people wanting them, sigh.
I just cannot get enough of the Wilkins boys, but this one stole my heart.

I would probably giveaway one of Julia Quinn's...maybe Brighter than the Sun. I love Julia Quinn's wit and humor that she incorporates into her books...this one is one of my favorites.

I love so many books that I don't really know which I would give away (I like keeping them all!!LOL) However if I had to pick one because I love it so much I would have to go with my favourite reread book. I never get tired of reading this one and love all the others by the same author. It's Mercedes Lackey's 'Herald's of Valdemar'. Technically it's a trilogy of the Arrow's books but my copies fell apart and I had to buy the trilogy - that's how much I love this story. It's about a young girl called Talia and her dreams of a better life. Through the intervention of a Companion she gets it after many hardships and heartaches.

I truly love books but the one I would share is my all time favorite. Published in 1988 - and I've read it over and over.

BUTTERFLY by Kathryn Harvey.

Either Dark Lover by JR Ward for someone who has not read that yet or Beautiful Dreamer by Elizabeth Lowell. I remember crying in that book because of the sacrifices that she made and the trust that she had in him.

I would give away Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning. All authors have imagination, of course, but to me Moning takes it to a whole new level in this book and then continues it throughout the series. This book will make anyone a convert to the paranormal genre, let alone romance!

Then just to prove my point about paranormals, I would give that same person Linda Howard's Son of the Morning.

These are two of the best books I've ever read.

Forever by Pete Hamill is a magical book, combining both history and a captivating and unique plot. The length of the book should not deter anyone since it more than makes up for the fascinating story within.

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, because the characters are so vivid and the story itself so well crafted. And I love, love, love Clay. :)

That's a tough one. I would probably give away one of my Lori Foster books because after reading one of her books, I was hooked on romance books. I'm not sure which one, but I'll say Wildly Winston.

Parallel Heat by Deidre Knight. It's a sci-fi story based on earth. The characters are so real (and the guys are so HOT!) The writing is exceptional. She draws you right into the story.

A Place of Hiding by Elizabeth George is an intricate story of betrayal, friendship and loyalty. Written with an interesting setting and intriguing historical contexts it is suspense and mystery at its best. Totally gripping with a buildup to the excellent climax.

Some great books mentioned. But the book I would want and actually have a few times given away is "Tiger Eye" by Marjorie M. Liu. That book just makes me want to share it with everyone the way its written. You really identify with the emotional struggles and the hardships. And rejoyous when the hero and or heroine overcome their troubles one step at a time. There's adventure, romance and a kind of self discovery in the pages. It really is a wonderful read and many of the people I've given the book too have become Liu fans and have bought the other books in the series.

THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak. My favorite book of 2006 and it made it on my "all time favorites" list. A beautifully written, unforgettable book about several diverse people & their experiences during Nazi Germany that I wish more people would read!

I would give away Murphy's Law by Lori Foster, just because that book speaks so loudly about family......It is hard to decide with all the books......but I would think that would be the one for me.

If I had to choose only one, it would be JD Robb's Naked in Death. It's the first of a great series.

I loved Johanna Lindsey's Silver Angel. I think she was the first author I started reading.

Deborah Chan said...

Linda Howard's MacKenzie series are books I would have a difficult time parting with, lol.

Fire and Ice by Diana Palmer was one of the first books that got me reading romances.

Swan song by Robert McCammon This has probably may favorite book of all time. I have given it to several people to read and they all loved it. He writes the type of books that got me started reading Dean Koontz and Stephen King books. You won't be able to put it down.

I would give away Storm Front by Jim Butcher. I stumbled upon his Dresden Files series quite by accident and I love it.

I probably would give away these books:

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn --> I love the dialogue b/w Colin and Penelope

Just the Way that you are by Barbara Freethy--> It takes losing someone to find love

The Sun and the Moon by Patricia Ryan --> So much abuse and pain but the love is still able to grow

A definite mix.

This is hard because I've given my sister a lot of good books. I would have picked Karen Moning but Sandy m did and she is right about it. Kiss of the Highlander turned me on to that genre. So I pick Janet Chapman, her book Charming the Highlander. It's a great book along with the rest of the series. It has humor, romance, time travel, and gorgeous men what more could you ask for?

Either Open Season by Linda Howard or the Men of August series by Lora Leigh. I loved these books. They were awesome.

"Fast Women" by Jennifer Crusie
She made me laugh for the first time in a long while during a difficult time in my life.

Also any book by: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lora Leigh, Shiloh Walker, Marjorie M. Liu, J.R. Ward, Lori Foster, etc. I think you get the picture! I have been an avid reader since I was eight years old.

Son of the Morning really made an impression on me too. I love all of Linda Howards books but this one and Mr. Perfect are my two favorites.

Passion by Lisa Valdez
She's a new writer and the story line was unconventional! It's a really great erotic romance by a new romance author and I'm looking forward to the one in the series "Patience".

I'd probably also give "The Darkest Heart" by Brenda Joyce. That is one of her older books, but one of my favorites because the storyline is, once again, unconventional.

some great books!

I lvoed Son of the Morning...haven't read it in a while, think i'm going to have to find it and go thru it again.

I'll be drawing the winner sometime after midnight tonight, EST.

There's at least one more FAVES contest, coming up probably tomorrow!

I would give away Lora Leigh's, Elizabeth's Wolf. I loved this story, it was the first of her shapeshifter series that I ever read, and totally got me hooked on the genre plus everthing Lora writes.
