Favorite Things

Bookmarks and lotions and dark chocolate kisses...ebooks and red hots and signed books from a friend... these are a few of my favorite things.
Okay, so I'm no song writer, but you get the idea. These are some of my favorite things. I love buying them for me. I love getting them. And today I'm going to take a page out of PBW's book and give away some of my favorite things.
Be sure to check back in every couple of days~for a couple of reasons. To see if you won, because you have to email me to claim your prize. And to see if there's another contest. I have three planned.
Today's prize is candy from one of my favorite stores, a little locally owned place called Schimpff's. And since I reckon I ought to promote my Christmas book, I'll also send you a signed copy of All She Wants, from Ellora's Cave and Pocket Books.
To enter, tell me who is the hardest person on your list to buy for. Or just leave a name in comments if you don't have a hard person. Contest is open until midnight, EST, tomorrow, 12/20/2006. Next contest will start on Thursday and it involves some of my favorite books...

My hubby is the hardest person to buy for. He only has two hobbies, golf and target shooting, and already has everything he needs for both. He has more sweaters, gloves, tools and car cleaning stuff than he'll ever use!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

My hardest person to shop for would be my In-Laws. We ended up getting them a 2 foot tall copper bird feeder. *sigh* If they don't like it, well, it's too late.
Oh, and my favorite things to get? Books, gift cards to bookstores and Chocolate!

I really didn't have anyone hard to buy for on my list. It was just finding one item that was difficult. My niece wanted the Baby Alive doll. Everyplace here was sold out. We found one on Amazon. Mailed in the money order for it. And by the 13th, we didn't think we were going to get it. We even called and asked them about it. They told us to have a backup plan just in case. They must have gotten a new shipment in because on the 14th it was shipped and it arrived on the 15th.

My mother who is 82 is hard to buy something for because she has just about everything-doesn't cook anymore, doesn't wear fancy clothes. Is one of those people that says as she opens a present "What did they get me this for?" I usually just give her money to play bingo with which she dearly loves to do.

The hardest gift to buy is for my parents, and their anniversary which is on Dec. 22nd........After 61 years of marriage, they can't think of a thing that they would like........So last year I got them a DVD player so they could play movies - I think that it has been used twice, because as I was told - it is too much bother to put on a movie and try to figure out how it works (this from my Dad).........so needless to say I have yet to get their gift and Friday is when I need it for........Oh well, maybe an inspiration will hit me........

My just-turned-18 nephew is the hardest person for me to buy for. LOL, I think the second he turned 18 my brain just froze! What do you buy for an 18-year-old?? Even though he's considered an adult now, to me he's still that little boy who followed me everywhere; but he's also a teenager. EEEEEEEK! I don't have any children of my own, so teenagers are a foreign entity to me in this day and age! So it's off to ask him the age-old question, "What do you want for Christmas?"

I don't have a hard time buying a gift for anyone. I usually have them write up a wish list that makes it all easy and simple *G*

To me, the hardest person to buy for is my oldest son's Sunday School teacher. It's a he, and I don't want to spend lots of money, and there just isn't that much to choose from for males. I think I'll wind up baking him a pound cake.

Second hardest this year is my father-in-law's "companion". She's super sweet, but we haven't gotten to know her very well. I don't want to get anything too personal for her, but I don't want it to seem unthoughtful either.

My hubby is hard to buy for. He is one of these people who goes out and buys what he wants as soon as he decides he needs it or must have it. My mom is also difficult. She always says "don't get me anything; if you do, you're getting it right back." Talk about ungracious!

The hardest person to buy for is my mother because whenever she sees something she wants, she always buys it herself. The other hard person on my list to buy for is my husband's grandfather because nobody knows what he wants. (he doesn't even know what he wants!)

My dad! He has everything and anytime you get him something he says, "I didn't really need this..." His interests are sports and tools (but he has plenty of those and I wouldn't know what to get).

yes my parents, seems they have everthing or don't know what they want lol. books look good

My mother is the hardest to buy for. She already has gotten herself everything she wants. She has everything! So sometimes the only thing to give is something made personally especially for her. That is so much harder than buying a gift.

Anonymous said...

I get a really hard time when I have to buy grab bag's gift because I am the kind of people that need a person in mind to buy the gift, so that is always the hardest gift to buy.

Anonymous said...

Definitely my father. He doesn't have any hobbies or collect anything, and he doesn't seem to want/need anything I do buy for him.

The DH because he always buys what he wants. Last year I got lucky and got him a book cataloging program that he wanted.

My Grandmother is impossible to buy for!! You can only buy stuff that's personable for her not something she'd use around the house or her hobbies and yet when it comes to clothes or jewelry or perfume her tastes are so off the wall you're never sure she'll like it or not!! And she finds Gift Cards impersonal so you go wrong at that turn too! Pfft!!

My husband....if he wants it, he already bought it for himself. His mother was worse. She liked expensive presents that were bought on sale. Go figure.

The hardest person on my list to buy for is my mother's husband. She has to help me out every year. Thanks mom!

It varies from year to year. This year it is my father. My Mom told me what she wanted.

The hardest person to shop for is my husband. He never wants anything. I keep a secret list hidden on my computer for the things I see him look at during the year, so I can have at least a few things under the tree he might want.

Maureen said...

My parents because they have most of what they want.

My uncle, he lives in a nursing home and doesn't really need or want anything.

Kris said...

My dad. He is not into anything and if he needs it, he buys it. he is very frustrating to buy for.

The hardest person for me to buy for is me *grin* I never know what I want when it comes time for receiving gifts, but always know what I want when I want it. LOL

Anonymous said...

My sister because she pretty much buys whatever she wants and/or needs so there's nothing left to get her.

MY STEPFATHER IS VERY HARD TO PERSONS A GIFT FOR.

My husband is hard to buy for. He will never tell you what he wants!

My sisiter you never likes any thing

My husband and I don't exchange gifts and we basically celebrate just with our 3 kids. The children are getting to an age where they're too old for toys and too young for kitchen appliances!!! I found it hard to shop for them.

If I were to buy something for my hubby though, I'd probably give him a gift certificate because all he likes is tools, and I wouldn't have a clue which ones to get.

Anonymous said...

My father is the hardest person to buy for because
every time I ask him what he wants he says "nothing" or "you don't need to get me anything" So I always have to guess what he wants. I usually end up getting him something that does not seem to interest him but I still try and get him something.

My mother-in-law Jung Ja is hardest for me. She used to like jewelery and furs-- which I mostly just wouldn't be able to afford-- but now it's not clear what to get her. She says she's too old for jewelery now. She loves cooking, her family, and praying-- and so you might think cooking utensils would be good. But, no, she has a cooking routine that employs a number of odd substitutes when she has the more obvious utensils available, and she likes what she uses....

Jeanette J said...

The hardest is my husband..he always says whatever you buy me is fine.

I have to say I loved Hunting the Hunter and love your site.

It would have to be my husband. He never wants anything, except underwear, socks, and t-shirts. Sheesh!! How boring is that. Anything else he wants he has already bought for himself.

My husband is hard to buy, and no matter what I buy, he guesses ahead of time what it is. I would like to surprise him at least once!
The other person that is hard to buy for is my husband's grandmother. She doesn't need anything and if she does, she buys it!

well, would have ta be my hubby--thats why he always gets a gift card--thats what he gets me too---he thinks I'M the hardest to buy for-imagine that.

The hardest people to buy for on my list are my father and brother. They love electronics but are picky about the type. If I happen to get something wihout some special feature or plug, they are not happy. Whatever happened to being happy to just recieve a gift? Yesh!

Rachelle said...

the hardest person to give a gift for? it has to be my bestfriend..she is very picky and she always stores my gifts instead of using them.we end up bickering most of the time because of that.so, i've decided to just let her come along with me as i shop. she'd pick what she wants and i'll buy it for her..works better for us now.. :)

My older married brother.

Because he's a guy. :)

I usually end up buying him a gc to a sporting goods store.

I don't have a person that is hard to shop for anymore. The person I always shop for is my daughter, she's seventeen and I can always find stuff she likes thankfully.

My sister and brother in law are SO hard to shop for! I mean, what do you get for people who have EVERYTHING!! They have the newest camcorder out, digital camera, computers, laptops, big screen plasma televisions, and beleive me, I am not CLOSE to being able to afford half of these things! I'm thinking more like dishes or maybe one of those new digital photo frames....UGHH!!!

My Mom and Dad are the hardest
to buy for because they have everything they want and don't
really want anything new. So we have made donations to charities in their name before and they seemed to like that.

My mother. She has so many things and she's addicted to qvc, so I never know what to get her.

Anonymous said...

my hardest to buy for is my dad, he doesnt want anything.

My hardest person is the MIL. She is housebound and likes her house minimilist so we can buy nothing for her house. And as she isn't able to get out jumpers and such are out of the question, besides they are so generic and don't really show much thought. Luckily we found her a wonderful Royal Ruby pendant that we could afford to buy this year. Now to think up something for Febuary and her birthday :(

The hardest person on my list to buy for is my father. I have learned not to ask him what he wants because he will ask for something that is either impossible to find or costs a fortune to mail. So I end up guessing and hoping for the best. Happy Holidays!

The most difficult to buy for is my younger sister.

My dh is definitely the hardest to buy for.

My father is the hardest to buy for too.
My mother just loves all sorts of candles.
My sister is happy with almost everything that you buy her. (especially something with animals or flowers)
But my father... He doesn't read. He doesn't really have a hobby...
He likes certain movies, but he falls a sleep while looking at them...
He really is a difficult person to buy presents for!

My aunt which is like my other mother since my mom died when I was 17 and she's never had no kids of her own. She says she not hard to buy for she lies.
